How a biometric attendance system works with NCheck.
A biometric attendance system records when people start and finish work by confirming who they are from their face, fingerprint or iris. Each check-in is tied to the person, so it can't be handed to a colleague the way a badge or PIN can, and that's what makes the hours safe to pay from. NCheck runs biometric employee attendance for HR and payroll teams, from a single office up to thousands of staff across several sites, using the phones, tablets, webcams and scanners they already have.
Enrolled once
Each employee is enrolled once, from a photo taken on a phone or tablet or a scan on a supported fingerprint or iris reader. NCheck turns that capture into an encrypted template and doesn't keep the original image.
A glance or a finger
The employee looks at a camera or places a finger on a scanner. On Standard and Premium, liveness detection runs on the device before anything is recorded, and that's what stops buddy punching: a photo held up to the camera or a video played on a screen won't get through.
Time and place
Every check-in is stamped with the time, and with the location where GPS and geofencing are switched on.
Straight to timesheets
Records land in timesheets and reports as they happen, ready to export to your payroll system.
Face, fingerprint or iris: choosing a method.
Most teams start with face recognition, since it needs nothing beyond a camera. Fingerprint and iris suit sites with particular requirements, and the methods can be mixed on one account. If you're weighing up the options, there's more on how to choose the right setup.
| Method | Suits | Devices | Available on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Face recognition | Field teams and busy shared entrances | Phones, tablets, webcams, IP cameras | Free plan and above |
| Fingerprint | Offices and factories with scanners already installed | USB scanners and terminals on the supported devices list | Standard and above |
| Iris | Restricted sites such as laboratories and vaults | Supported iris cameras | Premium |
What's included in NCheck's biometric attendance software.
Three modalities, one system
Face on any camera, fingerprint, iris for high assurance, mixed per site, device or person.
Anti-spoofing that holds up
On Standard and Premium, on-device liveness blocks photos, screens and replays, so every record ties to a living person.
GPS & geofencing
GPS on every mobile check-in, and from Standard, geofencing flags or blocks off-site clock-ins.
Fully offline
From Standard, records locally without signal and syncs when the connection returns.
Work schedules
Shifts, breaks and schedule locations managed beside attendance.
Payroll-ready
Six report types, Tally ERP & QuickBooks exports, full REST API.
Two apps
Free Attend app for self check-in; Admin app for shared devices (€95 one-time per device).
Any device
Phones, tablets, webcams and dedicated biometric terminals.
Cloud or on-premises biometric attendance system.
NCheck is the same product in both setups, so the choice comes down to where you want the data held. A cloud based biometric attendance system is the quicker start, with nothing to host and updates handled for you. On-premises keeps the server inside your own network, which suits organisations bound by data residency rules or security policies that keep biometric data off third-party infrastructure. You can start in the cloud and move on-premises later.

Frequently asked questions.
What is a biometric attendance system?
Sometimes called a biometric time and attendance system, it records working hours by verifying a physical trait such as the face or a fingerprint. Badges and PINs can be lent to a colleague, so they only show that a check-in happened. A biometric check-in also shows who made it, which is the part payroll needs. Our explainer covers the basics in more depth.
Does it work on the devices we already have?
In most cases, yes. The free NCheck Attend app turns Android and iOS phones and tablets into check-in points, and a webcam on a Windows PC can work as a face station. Fingerprint scanners and terminals on the supported devices list connect to the same account, so it's worth checking that list before buying hardware.
How accurate is biometric attendance?
NCheck runs on Neurotechnology's face, fingerprint and iris algorithms, which are ranked in NIST evaluations. On Standard and Premium, liveness detection rejects photos and screens held up to the camera. Where one method struggles, such as fingerprints on dusty or worn hands, face check-in can run on the same account as a fallback.
How does the data get into payroll?
Timesheets and reports export to Excel and CSV, and NCheck has setup guides for Tally ERP and QuickBooks Desktop. Other HR and payroll systems connect through the REST API.
Is biometric attendance legal in our country?
In most countries it is, with conditions. Employers generally need to give notice, have a lawful basis or consent, limit how long the data is kept, and offer a non-biometric option to anyone who declines. NCheck stores templates, not photos, and can run on your own servers. The compliance pages cover GDPR, US state laws, India's DPDP Act, Türkiye's KVKK and the Gulf PDPL. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
What does it cost?
Pricing is per employee per month, with a free plan for up to 5 employees and a 30-day free trial on paid plans. On-premises licences are priced per employee as well. The pricing page has current figures and a calculator, and how much biometric attendance costs goes into more detail.
